Excavator Transport in Brisbane & South East Queensland
Brisbane Low Loaders moves excavators of every size across SEQ — from compact mini excavators on tilt-tray machinery floats to large crawler excavators on multi-axle low-loaders. Every move is quoted to the machine, the corridor and the site access, with permits and route surveys handled in-house.

Excavator transport is one of the most common heavy machinery movements across Brisbane and South East Queensland. Whether a civil contractor is mobilising a 30-tonne crawler excavator to a road project, a demolition crew is relocating a long-reach machine, or a hire yard is delivering a mini excavator to a residential site, the trailer, the loading method and the route must all be matched to the machine. Brisbane Low Loaders engineers every excavator move individually — there is no default deck and no published rate.
The right trailer depends on the excavator’s operating mass, overall dimensions and track width. Compact and midi excavators up to around 10 tonne typically travel on a machinery float or tilt-tray, where a hydraulic deck loads the tracked machine without a separate crane. Standard and large crawler excavators — 20, 30, 50 tonne and beyond — ride on multi-axle low-loaders, where the low deck height keeps tall machines within bridge and powerline clearance and the axle spread manages overmass loads. Long-reach and demolition excavators with oversized attachments may need a widener or a crane-assisted load, planned into the move before dispatch.
Oversize and overmass excavator moves require NHVR access permits in Queensland once the loaded combination exceeds the statutory dimension thresholds — most commonly 2.5 metres wide, 4.3 metres high or 19 metres long. Permit lodgement, pilot vehicles, escorts and route surveys are coordinated in-house as part of the quote. Brisbane Low Loaders surveys the SEQ route — the Gateway Motorway, Ipswich Motorway, M1 Pacific Motorway and Bruce Highway corridors — for height, width, mass and turning paths before the convoy moves, so tunnel restrictions, bridge limits and estate access are planned, not discovered on the day.
Site access is where many excavator moves succeed or fail. Gate widths, overhead clearance, ground bearing and turning paths at both the pickup and delivery determine which trailer can reach the machine. A low-loader that cannot turn into a narrow estate may need a machinery float or an alternate approach. Brisbane Low Loaders asks for site photos and access notes as part of the request, surveys the route, and matches the trailer and loading method to the real conditions on the ground — not a default booking.
Excavator sizes we move
Loading methods
Machinery float (tilt-tray)
Self-loading hydraulic deck control for tracked excavators where site access allows — no separate crane required. Ideal for compact and midi excavators moving between Brisbane civil sites.
Multi-axle low-loader
Low deck height for tall crawler excavators and long-reach machines. Multi-axle setups spread load for overmass units, keeping bridge and powerline clearance within limits.
Crane-assisted loading
For excavators that cannot self-track onto a deck, or sites with restricted turning paths, crane-assisted loading is coordinated as part of the move plan.
How to prepare your excavator move
Confirm the operating mass and overall dimensions (length × width × height) of the excavator, including any attached bucket, ripper or counterweight.
Note the track width and whether attachments will travel secured to the machine or detached on the trailer.
Photograph the pickup and delivery sites — gate widths, overhead clearance, ground bearing and turning paths.
Identify any slope, soft ground or confined estate access that affects which trailer can reach the machine.
Provide the preferred timing window, especially for oversize loads restricted to certain SEQ travel hours.
